ten in the am, saturday; back at 'er.
with only the vocals and a few other things left on the record, we started on the first tune and worked our way through, verse by verse. the process wasn't as grueling as i thought it would be. we basically did three or four takes of each part and picked the best one.
myself and Cam were able to get through the first three songs (while Nathan napped a bit and drank some b's), before our special guests came in. Stephen had a great idea of adding a string arrangement to the end of one of the tunes. this was something we had previously thought would sound awesome, but it wasn't until he mentioned that he knew a cellist and violinist, that we jumped on the idea. Stephen's friends Hannah and Lyssa came in and laid down some tearful stuff and really rocked the tune. after they were finished, we decided to stop tearing out our throats for the day and parted ways to return on sunday to finish up the rest of the vocals.
sunday came, as well as a mild throat and nasal cold on my behalf. great.
we power-housed through the first tune and started on the track doubles, when we had our first group of guest vocalists. Cam's pops and bro came out, as well as a friend of Nathan and Amanda's. we sang a line from one of the songs a few times, got some good takes, and went for lunch.
after lunch we ripped through the doubles and started on the final, most aggressive song. this was a good idea, cause if this was the first song of the day, it would have been the last for my throat.
after getting a good start on the tune, our second group of gang vocalists showed up. four of my buddies drove up from Cookstown to help sing along and eat some free candy. oh yea, the candy.
apparently one of the Baldwins (Steve didn't even know which one), came into the studio the previous week for some promo stuff, so the studio bought candy for his majesty (don't ask me why). the candy included "hot lips," "big feet," and of course "green thumbs." needless to say, the Baldwin didn't eat very much of them, so that was our snack over the course of the weekend.
once the second group session of vocals was completed, we finished up the vocals on the last track and called 'er a day (with little to no life left in us.).
after about roughly sixty hours in the studio, we have finished recording! we're all amazed and excited about what we accomplished in only three weekends. now its up to Steve and his mixing/mastering skills to finished 'er off. soon, the ep will be released. more info soon to come. oh snap.
